Alastair T Kay BVSc., MS., DACVS., MRCVS

Alastair comes from Skipton and graduated from Liverpool (with merit) in 1998. After a spell in mixed practice in Cumbria and three years in equine practice in Lancashire, he completed a two-year equine surgery and diagnostics internship at Rossdale and Partners, Newmarket followed by an equine surgery internship in Lexington, Kentucky.   Alastair then completed a three-year residency in equine surgery at the Ohio State Veterinary Teaching hospital. In 2008 he became a clinical instructor at the University of Georgia, USA and is currently working in the equine surgery department of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Alastair has also obtained his masters in Veterinary Science and become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is the principle author of eight surgical papers and has given several lectures by invitation to the main equine congresses in the USA.

We are delighted that Alastair is joining the surgical and lameness diagnostic team at the clinic and we have no doubt that he will bring with him a wealth of experience and expertise.

Keesjan joined the practice in October 2009 to take up the role of senior medicine clinician. Keesjan is a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, a specialist qualification which is the American equivalent of the European DECVS. Keesjan qualified from Utrecht in the Netherlands and he spent a couple of years working in the Neonatal foal intensive care unit. From here Keesjan completed a residency in Equine Internal medicine at Michigan State University during which time he also attained his MSc. on the effect of tongue ties on upper airway mechanics in the horse. After completing the Residnecy, Keesjan obtained a PhD. on the effects of Steroids in horses.

Prior to joining the practice, Keesjan has spent time heading a research group in Pfizer concentrating on companion animal vaccine development.
