I graduated from Edinburgh Vet School in 2000 and have worked continuously in genuine mixed veterinary practice for the last 10 years. The majority of my career has been spent in the north west of England and southern Scotland where I have worked for the Vet practices in Longtown, Brampton, and along Hadrian’s Wall to Hexham.
The farming there is still a good variety of dairy, suckler, and sheep units. There are many big long-established family farms and a good range of small holdings with pigs, goats and Alpaca. Before joining the Minster farm department I took a “year out” to locum around the UK to extend my experience in a variety of practices including the large dairy areas in Wiltshire. Having gained some experience of the York area as a locum, I was delighted when Andrew contacted me in with the opportunity to join the practice on a full time basis.
At heart I’m a cow and sheep man, but it is the huge variety in farming and livestock in the York area that attracts me to working here! My main interests lie in surgery, fertility and obstetrics. I enjoy a more hands on approach and I like to get on farm as much as possible. Recently I have become more involved in lameness issues and the Alpaca side of the practice. Outside of work, the huge range of social and outdoor activities York has to offer keep me enthusiastic and entertained! I have really enjoyed the time I have spent this far in York and look forward to setting some roots down in the area.

I joined Minster Vets in April 2010 as part of the small animal nursing team, with the ambition and aim to progress my career within the practice. Prior to this, I had spent many years working within the insurance industry and also running my own business. The opportunity to come and work for Minster Vets was too big to turn down and one that I haven’t looked back on. However, being a country lad and spending many a year helping my father at the farm, the transition from the small animal team to the farm department was simple and an easy choice to make.
Working within the farm team as a veterinary paraprofessional, I intend to use my flexible attitude to perform a wide range of duties with the vets and for the improved service to our clients. I am currently studying for my R-SQP qualifications, which I aim to achieve before the end of the year.Being a laid back kind of guy, a pint of real ale in a sunny beer garden is my idea of heaven, however a lot of frustration is taken out at the gym a few days a week!
