In-House Laboratory
The Minster Practice Laboratory is spilt between the Equine Unit Laboratory and the Laboratory at the Salisbury Road site.
The Equine unit Laboratory is CEMO registered which means it is one of only 28 labs in the UK that is accredited to deal with Clittoral and stallions swabs as part of the CEMO (Contagious Equine Metritis Organism) prevention scheme. This allows Mare and Stallion Owners to ensure their animals are free from the three potentially venereal bacterial infections that affect the horse; Taylorella equigenitalis (CEMO), Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
The Equine Lab handles all the equine Haematology and Bacteriology and fungal cultures.
Faecal Worm egg counts and cytology smears are also processed at Poppleton.
Biochemistry samples are handled at the Laboratory at Salisbury Road, since it would not be cost-effect to have two machines one at each site. However, this machine is available to us 24hours a day, for when we have urgent out of hours cases.
