Worming

Puppies and kittens should be wormed monthly until 6 months of age, many puppies and kittens carry Roundworms (Toxocara) which can cause blindness if passed on to children.
Dogs and cats older than 6 months should be wormed every 3 months to prevent round and tapeworm infestation.

We recommend using Drontal tablets which are effective against all the UK species of round and tapeworms. If you have difficulty administering the tablets let us know – there are alternative methods and we can also give the tablets for you.

We offer a reminder service to help you remember when to worm your pet.

There are also spot-on wormers available. They are simple and safe to use. Single dose pipettes of the wormer are applied to your pet’s skin at the back of the neck. If you struggle with tablets this could be the solution.

There is an emerging trend of lungworm (Angiostrongylus) cases in dogs, more commonly in southern England although cases are now being reported further north. Preventative treatment for this worm requires the use of different products. Please contact us for advice about this parasite and its prevention.

Please feel free to discuss any aspect of worming with us so that we may provide you with appropriate treatment for your pet.
